Guitar 906 – Neck shaping and graphite install
August 27, 2009
Continued shaping the neck and channelling for trussrod and graphite reinforcement rods. Used epoxy to secure the rods and let dry for 24 hours.
Used the bandsaw to bring the neck down to thickness then used the spindle sander to smooth and create the heel swoop.

Stephen,
Remember me from the old ASL class days? I’m the dentist out in Indiana. I think my email address has changed since then so take note.
I’m so impressed with your web site and progress! Really nice work you are doing…you must love it. I do to but with my “real job” and other projects around this house, it’s taking me forever just to build guitar #1. I final got started in March after I finished building my 20″ drum sander. I had almost everything I needed around the shop except the motor which I found for $50 so I guess it cost me a $100 or $120 to build. It’s a big help for some of the steps. This first guitar is taking a lot of time, what with building a jig or tool for almost every step. I’ve got the top and back braced, sides bent and I’ve glued up the neck and am ready to cut the channel for the truss rod. I made my own kerfed lining and will start assembly once that is in place. Progress is slow but I really love the work. I had gotten a little tired of the furniture-building so this has injected a new excitement to woodworking for me. Forgot to mention too that I met several “old” guys in my small development here last fall…we talked about music and found out we all had similar interests…we started a band! We are just practicing once a week but we are improving…but what a great time we have! I’ve always wanted to do this so it’s really lucky that we all live within a block of each other and our wives tolerate the time and money we are devoting to this “play time.” I play rhythm guitar, harmonica and am the lead singer. Someday soon, I’ll be playing with the band on a “Zentz” guitar!! Life is good. Keep up the great work and web site. I wish I had more time to just browse this and the great guitar web sties…but I have to get in the shop! Take care Stephen.
