Guitar 1002 – Headstock Slotting
December 26, 2010
Located slot position on headstock and drilled out holes (smaller than 1/2″) in preparation for head slotting.
The slot opening will be 1/2″. By rasping out the material between the drilled holes, I’ll be able to create a flattened opening.

I’m liking it.

Hi Steve,
This learned from my list of errors:
When I cut the slot first and then drilled the side holes, I got breakout on the inside. I had to fill in the slot that I’d just cut and then do the drilling. On the next headstock, I drilled the tumbler holes first. And because the tumblers distance is not forgiving, I took a couple of hours to build the drilling jig to get the holes properly distanced. Now I just slap on the jig and cut the holes in less than 5 minutes.
On another list, on my list of to-dos, is to build a jig to cut these slots with the router.
Then will it all be perfect??? Stay tuned for more mistakes!
Stay well,
BR
