Guitar 804 – Koa Parlor is complete
March 8, 2009
Save a few ding repairs, polishing of the nut and saddle, and some minor string height work, the Koa Parlor is complete. This guitar would have been completed sooner had I not agreed to an emergency secret gift commission for my brother in law (the 12 string Dreadnought).
I have completed 5 guitars, and two more are in the works. I had no expectations on what the sound of this little guitar would bring, but in the end, it is very pleasing, and quite bold for such a little box. It gives me hope for my own Parlor I am currently constucting.
Guitar 902 – Installing headstock veneer
March 2, 2009
You can never use too many clamps. I use a guide pin to keep the veneer pieces from shifting around when gluing to the headstock.
A long standing problem for me is getting the body as it wraps around the waist area of the mold to meet the mold. I’ve tried a new waist clamp to address the problem.
I’ve installed all the kerfing, and I will release from the mold to see if the shape is retained as I don’t think I can get these spreaders out of the guitar once the back and sides are on (very small soundhole).
Guitar 902 – Top Bracing complete
February 26, 2009
Completed the installation of top bracing (after flooding and triming down rosette).
I still need to feather the ends of the braces down and perhaps scallop as well.
I’m ready to build a bending mold for the parlor body shape, then proceed with side bending and binding/purfling bending as well.
